Instagram began hiding likes in Canada in April 2019, and it had expanded its testing to the rest of the world by November 2019.
It has yet to be revealed whether or not this change is permanent.
Hiding the likes in Canada has resulted in a staggering 41 percent decrease in engagement. The one thing that is blatantly clear is that marketers have to up their game, and produce powerful, inspiring, and engaging content with UGC at its helm.
